Mama monster shared an emotional speech as she collected her top style icon award at this year's Council of Fashion Designers of America award ceremony.

Known by the CFDA as "being a fashion revolutionary", the style risk-taker showed up to the event in an asymmetrical black, sheer corset piece by Thierry Mugler with a turquoise wig to complete the look. "She pushes boundaries, she loves fashion,” said CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg, “and she loves dressing up.”

While accepting her fashion icon award, a nervous Gaga relived moments of when she was a teen and how she would save her money, while keeping tabs on her favorite pieces from a neighborhood thrift store.

Gaga follows in the fashion footsteps of former icon winners such as Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker. "All of you made me feel like a star before I was," she told the crowd of A-listers and fashion elites. "As much as this award means to me personally ... I just want you to know how much this means to young Americans."

A former employee of Gucci has filed a $5 million dollar lawsuit against the label, claiming she was let go after complaining about racial remarks she endured after working with the company.

Josephine Robinson, a former Gucci tax lawyer working on Rihanna's 2008 contract who identifies as a "dark-skinned West Indian Latina," was also allegedly told to pay her less, keeping a  percent of the singer's fee for her Gucci tattoo heart campaign. According to court document details from the New York Post, "When Sherwood discovered that Rihanna was from a Caribbean island, he told Robinson to ‘tax the hell out of her’ and find a way to allow Gucci to withhold 30 percent of her fee."

Robinson is seeking damages for having to suffer through "an unrelenting barrage of racist comments and jokes at her expense by Sherwood and others at Gucci," according to the Post.

A Gucci spokesperson stated: "Ms. Robinson's allegations are completely baseless, and the company will defend itself vigorously against this meritless litigation. The company is confident that it will prevail."

Full curves ahead

Vogue Italia's June cover will feature three plus-sized models showing off their voluptuous curves.

After the launch of Vogue Curvy in February, models Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawley were chosen to flaunt their curves in the issue to help highlight the beauty of curvier women.

Editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, an advocate in fighting against anorexia, has not only created a campaign to shut down websites promoting the disease but she has also been inspired to show that every body is beautiful.

"I did some research and found that there are countless pro-anorexia websites and blogs that not only support the disorder, but also urge young people to be competitive about their "body shape" Sozzani explains."Fashion has been always blamed as one of the culprits of anorexia, and our commitment is the proof that fashion is ready to get on the frontline and struggle against the disorder."

With her June cover titled, Belle Vere, or True Beauty in English, Sozzani's mission is beginning to be heard, loud and clear.

What FNW is all about!

You might be wondering, What is Fashion News Weekly? It's a website where you can get all the latest news and controversy fit to print in the fashion world.

I recently graduated from Flagler College, studying communication and specializing in journalism and media production.  I created the fashion column at Flagler's newspaper, The Gargoyle and focused my writing and news packages on everything fashion, when I could.

I love fashion and all the interesting tidbits behind it. Whether it's controversy over photo manipulation or Vogue Italia making strides to include plus sized women, I think everyone should know what's going on in one of the biggest industries in the world.
